Cambridge residents Bill Brogan and Jinzhao Li are the couple behind Market House. Before his 17 years’ tenure at St John’s College Cambridge, Bill worked in many aspects of hospitality, from the Four Seasons Hotel Group to ICI (which then split into ICI and AstraZeneca) and P&O. He kept a Michelin Star at Le Talbooth, as the youngest chef to do so at the time, and also received a Catey award – the Oscar of the hospitality industry. Jinzhao has worked in the education and culture sectors in China and the UK for over two decades, and for her, Market House is about bringing people together.

Our Head Chef Chris Ellis, Assiatant Manager Giovanna Sottile and the rest of the team at Market House also look forward to welcoming you and will ensure that your Market House experiences will be your fondest memories.

A Grade II listed building that boasts a fascinating story. In Victoria’s reign it was owned by a wine merchant, becoming one of Cambridge’s earliest telephone exchanges in 1892. A tobacconist for much of the twentieth century, in 1973 it became the much-loved Don Pasquale, a traditional Italian restaurant that established itself as a Cambridge institution for the next few decades under the Benedetto family.

Whilst the building dates back to the late 18th century, traders and a daily outdoor market have been operating at Market Hill since Saxon times. Before the Fens were drained, ships and barges laden with fish, salt, fruit, vegetables and wine used to sail from King’s Lynn all the way to Cambridge.

Market House will breathe new life into this heritage building in the heart of the city, following on from the legacy left by previous occupants and continuing to serve the community as a space to come together.

We are a member of Cambridge Sustainable Food. We bring integrity to everything we do at Market House and we endeavour to be a socially responsible and sustainable business that will flourish in the Cambridge scene.

My story started in Melbourne, Australia, where I first tasted good speciality coffee. On arrival back in Cambridge, I decided to switch from my old office life to hospitality, which led me into the rabbit hole of the coffee industry.
